Autumn is here, the triathlon season is coming to a close. Activetrainingworlds Great Yarmouth Triathlon was the sand, sea, and beach setting for King’s Lynn Triathlon Club’s Arthur Sargeant, Ashish Rastogi, Peter Macklemore, and Andrew Coker. Mark Moden opted for the delights of East Leake's triathlon in the Rushcliffe district of Nottinghamshire.

Our club had triathletes competing in the sprint, (500m swim, 21km bike, 5km run) standard, (1000m swim, 38km bike, 10km run) and the special centurion distance, which was 1km swim, 84km bike, 15km run.

All events began with a beach start and multiple laps of a 250m sea swim, complete with an Australian-style exit at the end of each lap and a short run before re-entering the water. The cycle headed North along the coast before heading inland to ride round the surrounding countryside before returning to the seafront for a multi-lap run leg on the promenade.

Coker opted for the sprint completing in a time of 01:36:24 placing 6th in his age group (A/G) The standard distance for Rastogi in 02:41:33 7th A/G, and Sargeant 02:59:24 7th A/G. Macklemore challenged himself to the centurion 05:04:03 4th A/G. Strong sea currents, headwinds on the bike, running barefoot on beach pebbles, and a puncture for one unlucky member did not stop the seaside swim, run, and bike fun for all.

Sergeant quotes,

‘’Well… that swim was, let's say, different!,  the current pulling to the right was unbelievable, the first buoy I swam to, I got squashed into it and pushed under. Just bodies everywhere mainly because of the current. The same happened on lap 2, but it was the stones getting out of the sea that was so painful! and by the 4th exit, my feet were really sore. The water temp was 16 degrees on the day which felt okay''

''It was a long run to transition and headwind for the first 8/9 miles, and then I got a puncture at mile 15 which took 13 mins to sort out. I wouldn't do this event again because of the swim, too much running and stones involved, but enjoyed it and good to have my son and future daughter supporting me on the course''

''Big thanks also to Jenna Gotts for supplying her cheer squad.  After the puncture, around mile 4 on the run, l did manage to smile again ? ‘’

Endorphin sports hosted their end of season triathlon and KLTC’s Mark Moden set his sights on the finish medal.  East Leake Triathlon, now in its 19th year, is a great fast, flat course, providing the perfect end to the 2022 season. Sprint distance 400m pool swim,  22km bike, an out and back undulating route ( not so flat was the feedback), 3 x 1 mile run laps with a mix of pavement & bridleway. Moden placed 13th in his age group with a time of 01:17:30. He was also competing against his daughter Beth, who placed 3rd in her category setting a time of 01:31:53. Beth started her triathlon journey back at our Sunny Hunny triathlon.
