In a few short months time, the triathlon season of 2023 will begin to slowly emerge. Hornigold and our newest club member Wicklen (welcome to the club!) started their 2023 multisport journey in said woodland duathlon. Duathlon comprises of run/bike/run and this event was Can But Tri’s 5th event of their winter season.

Local multisport event hosts Can But Tri was created in 2019 by husband and wife team Jill and Iain Dawson. The pair have an extensive background within sport from grassroots to elite level competition, coaching and event management.

These fun and friendly duathlons are perfect for those new to multi-sport events, but also great for the more experienced competitor wanting to test their fitness.  A full line up of these great local events can be found via the following  link  https://canbuttri.co.uk/our-events/

This fully off-road route consisted of a 2.3km run, 7km bike, and a second 2.3km run on well maintained trails with route signage and marshals at key locations. Hornigold, and Wicklen  tackled some sand, grass, and hardpack trail on the day with Hornigold placing 29th with a 3 min course PB in 49:06, and Wicklen 20th setting a time to beat of 42:25.

Hornigold and Wicklen quoted “ A very friendly, low key event within lovely settings. It gave me personally a lot of confidence and experience, enough for me to enter my first tri in 2023”.

“ Introducing Andy to Duathlon was also a high point for me ”.

“A Baptism of fire for me (Andy)  on my first ever duathlon! The run was straightforward but using a 15 year old pig iron of a bike was not the best of ideas, as everyone I passed on the run flew by me on the bike leaving a lot of hard graft on the final run!”

“ Loved every second of it though!! but it was a real learning curve”

“ Can But Tri were a really friendly bunch, a very well organised and marshaled event ”. “I’ll look forward to going back next month for the next in the series, this time hopefully on a better bike…..”
