Our club has provisionally booked 5 teams in to this year's Bedford Relays on Sun 28th July.
We don't often get a chance to race as a team, but when we do it is normally a bit of a larf. This event is particularly relaxed and, crucially, the event T-shirt is pretty good.
Entry is open to ALL members of KLTC, irrespective of experience and ability. We try to mix the teams up so that everyone finishes at roughly the same time, but we did have a team that finished 3rd overall last year (until they were DQ'd). If you want to have a go at a podium, we can try to put a team together for you, but the emphasis for us is participation and fun for all. We are going to be entering our first youth team (15+) this year, which is really exciting for the club. This event is unfortunately no longer part of the Eastern Regional League.
Logistically, it is an early start so we all rock up and register on the morning and we have lunch at a local pub on the way home. It is also possible to camp onsite on the Sat evening.
Race Format: Swim 750m: Bike 20k : Run 5k.
A team consists of 3 athletes, who each complete the swim as a relay, then the bike as a relay and then the run relay; all three members of the team will complete each discipline in turn before the team moves on to the next discipline. If you are generally slow or nervous in transition, this race format is perfect for you and even adds to the fun.
Both the Swim and the run are in Box End park, making for a great spectator experience as well as great racing. The bike course is out on the local roads with some fast sections and the odd hill to get you out of the saddle.
The club is subsidising our entry, reducing the cost to £35 per head (plus race licence if not a member of TE, payable on the day) .
You can secure a place on a team for a deposit of £10, but we would appreciate it if you could please pay in full to keep Neil happy.
