The Hereward Relay and Ultra were postponed from 2019 due to flooding on Stages 1 and 4 and the off-road sections of Stage 2 being heavily waterlogged. The new date for the race is th 9th Feb, 2020 but we suspect Leg4 will actually be leg3 in reverse because the road across the Welney Wash is still flooded.
KLTC are back again for March Athletics' MKM Hereward relay and Ultra.
The Hereward Relay was first run in 1998 when 14 teams took part and has grown with 117 teams taking part in 2018. The race starts in Peterborough and follows (as far as possible) the Hereward Way for over 39 miles to Ely crossing over bridleways, fields, bridges and tracks and is therefore unsuitable for wheelchair users. The route is marshalled and fully signed, but the route maps can be found below.
Teams consist of four members who each run one stage of the following stages as a relay. Stage 1 runners all start together at 9am, and we attempt to have all teams finishing at roughly the same time. The 2019 momento will be a stage specific medal and full details can be found on March Athletics' own Website. It is also the same cost for each stage.
|1||Peterborough to Whittlesey||6.9 miles|
|2||Whittlesey to March||10.3 miles|
|3||March to Welney||11.5 miles|
|4||Welney to Ely Football Club||10.9 miles|
Thank you to KLTC committee for agreeing to subsidise our teams once again and please remember that we can accommodate any pace within our teams, so if you want to come out and play (and can cover the distance of course), you will be in for a memorable day (normally in a good way). Entry is limited to paid-up members to start with, but we may need to open it up to non-members if we haven't filled our teams.
We have 4 teams reserved and the deadline for entry is 31st Sept, so the sooner you register the better for us.
