KLTC Members and friends of the club took part in the annual Norwich Triathlon on Sunday 11th July hosted by the local triathlon club Tri-Anglia.
Maureen Wolfe, Beth Norman, Annabel Putterill, Jenny Hindle, Marie Doughty, Mark Doughty, Juliette Meek, Bianca Lewis, John Sayer, and Peter Mackle KLTC Members, and friends all participated in the event hosted by the local triathlon club Tri-Anglia.
The event was sold out and Tri-Anglia members were out in force to make it a safe and enjoyable event offering support and enthusiasm for competitors. Triathletes took on the Olympic distance 1500m/38km/10km, or the Sprint distance of 750m/18km/5km.
Competing in the Olympic with their respective finishing times were Maureen 03:35:49, Beth 02:58:59, Jenny 03:56:42, Mark 02:54:26, Juliette 02:56:10, and Peter in 02:51:21.
Sprint competitor results saw Annabel in 01:39:36, Marie 01:37:26, Bianca 1:50:04, and John 01:26:49.
Just like Clark Kent has his Lois Lane, I had my own calves of steel reporter at the event in the form of Maureen Wolfe. She explained it was a very interesting start to the event in the open water swim. She quotes " It was a very foggy start to the Standard Distance swim, where 12 competitors were released to the water at a time for social distancing purposes, with only one buoy visible from the start, we had to search for the red turn buoy at the other end of the lake, exiting the lake was little more difficult than usual as under Covid restrictions as no help was provided by marshalls"
Completing the swim, drying their toes, it was off for a blue skyed, sunny but undulating bike ride through the beautiful South Norfolk roads, concluding with an off-road run around Whitlingham lake to the finish line.
Present on the day were a few first-timers. Beth, Annabel, and Bianca. Beth Norman represented a charity close to her heart, Blood Cancer UK. Beth's grandad has recently been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. He, along with Beth's mum Julia took on the Wells Triathlon in 2019 as a team. So far Beth has raised £2752 for said charity. Beth was also awarded an age category trophy on the day.
Bianca Lewis who has competed in OCR events previously said, I’m itching to do more, possibly with less elevation next time. I did explain to her, that hills are our friends! She is currently in training for the London marathon.
Maureen wanted to send a huge thank you to Tri Harder in Dereham (Tri equipment specialists ) who kindly supplied her with a free set of elastic laces after she got one of her brand new pink ones snagged in the portaloo, causing it to snap.
Marie and Mark Doughty husband and wife triathletes, attended with Marie glad to be back at an event. She made friends with a fellow competitor setting up in transition. Who then, also appeared to her surprise in the KLTC group photo gathering. She soon realized it was actually a fellow club member!
Seasoned triathlete John quotes, "A pretty uneventful event for me. Managed a PB on the course. Pretty pleased with my swim and cycle times'"
Thank you, and well done to you all. Continue to train and enjoy this triathlon season.
Mark.
