Last weekend saw an aquatic theme and two newly born triathletes competing with KLTC.
The Serpentine is a 40-acre recreational lake in Hyde Park, London, England, created in 1730 at the behest of Queen Caroline. Within the 19 degree waters, a trio of KLTC mermaids in the form of Helen Melville, Judith Berry, and Alice Page, all challenged themselves to swim two-miles (3200m) in the Children with Cancer UK Swim Serpentine event.
First out of the water, and swimming for the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) charity was Page in 01:05:56, 177/2466 (F Cat). Page also raised £350 for said charity.
Melville emerged next in 01:17:52 496/2466, She had a lovely swim, and mentioned it wasn't too crowded. Her swim was excellent training for the upcoming Outlaw X event in the very near future.
A few splashes behind saw Berry, who is continuing to improve her open water swimming skills finish in 01:24:56 701/2466. Berry was also awarded the London Classics medal, in which participants must run the famous 26.2 miles of the London Marathon, cycle the spectacular 100 miles of the RideLondon-Surrey 100 and complete the two-mile swim at Swim Serpentine.

The Stradbroke triathlon hosted by Can But Tri, in Suffolk was the perfect introduction for our newest triathlete Sharon Elsdon. Can But Tri events are perfect for those new to multi-sport. Elsdon completed the Swim (160m) Bike (17km) Run (3km) in 01:04:01. This was an Elsdon family event, with her husband Darren supporting her, and son Thomas competing in the junior aquathlon. Thomas set a time of 11:56 within the Tristar 2 (11-12 year olds): 160m swim / 2km run, winning the whole category overall. The Elson family were all really impressed with the event's organisation and felt it was so nice to be able to race again. They all had a great day.

Our second newly born triathlete, Ronnie Robinson completed his first-ever triathlon going straight in at the deep end competing at the Mallory Park British Triathlon Big Weekend - Inter-Regional Championships. Robinson, tethered to his guide, set a time of 00:42:02 in the sprint paratri (375m swim, 10.8km bike, and 2.5km run).
“ It was a great learning experience, although things didn't quite go to plan. We became untethered during the swim, which lost us some time, but we had a great bike ride and run to finish 8th. Lots of things learned and some very positive feedback from the GB coach" |
