Last weekend saw the Elsdon family line up on the starting grid to race the run Silverstone event. |
As the season slowly closes for triathlons, many of our KLTC members will take to running events to keep winter fitness levels up. The Elsdon family, comprising of husband Darren and wife Sharon, accompanied by son Thomas put on their racing shoes for a very special running event that takes place around Silverstone motor racing circuit, near the Northhampshire villages of Silverstone and Whittlebury. It is the current home of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, which it first hosted in 1948. The Elsdons, all being huge F1 fans, followed in the tyre prints of legends, speeding around the iconic track. The family all went full throttle following the racing line and crossed the finish in view of the Copse Grandstands and proceeded down the track and into the event village pitstop to collect water, snacks and the well-earned motorsport themed medal. Experiencing Stowe Corner, Vale, and Hangar Straight, Darren chose the 10K event and set a time of 57:36. Sharon with her son Thomas raced the shorter 5K event, Sharon passed the chequered flag in 28:39 gaining 11th in her age category. Thomas, debuting over the 5k distance, was also 11th in his category setting a future 5k time to beat of 22:19. |
