King’s Lynn Triathlon Club members were present at three separate events over the weekend. The George Munday 10K, Shouldham Cross-Country, and the Thetford Duathlon.

Judith Berry and Kimberly Grey both travelled to High Lodge. Situated in the stunning location of Thetford forest, this was the setting for the Can-But-Tri Winter Duathlon Series Event number 2. The second of the winter series from this company. The event is held entirely off-road with the bike section suitable for mountain, cyclocross, gravel or hybrid (with off-road tyres) bikes. The run course took participants along woodland tracks combining sand, gravel, mud, grass and puddles. This was Berry’s first attempt at Duathlon (run-bike-run) and good practice into the bike-to-run discipline of transition leading up to her first triathlon early next year. Berry set a time to beat of 46:16 coming 23rd place. Grey having competed in the series 1 event, almost equalled her previous time on the course and managed 53:17 and 35th. Distances on the winter route were 2.25km run / 7km bike / 2.25km run.
Berry quotes “ Initially it was very nerve-racking as I knew the transition from cycle to run was going to be hard. I did train for the Ely duathlon earlier in the year but had to pull out because of an injury. The first run was fine, the cycle was good, although I kept holding back as I knew I needed to reserve some energy for the second run!!!! The second run felt awful, but speaking to other competitors they gave me a few suggestions which I will try the next time I compete, which will be the 4th event in the series in January. It probably took me a good half a mile of the second run to start getting my brain, legs, and lungs working together!” |

Setting foot in the autumnal Shouldham woods for the second event of the Ryston Runners AC Open Cross-Country Grand Prix Series were Geraldine Jordan, Ronnie Robinson, Ian Kidman, Alistair Doig, and Esmie Kidman. This being the second of the season in the yearly series, this time racing over 6.5KM. The runs predominantly stick to the main fire break trails that scatter the warren. Underfoot the conditions were starting to feel like a winter cross country should be, wet and muddy but still surprisingly mild for the time of year. KLTC had a haul of age-grade medals from their competitors on the day. First over the line for KLTC saw Kidman in 38:35 gaining 10th in his category. Following the pack home saw an old hat at Ryston cross country, Doig in 40:28. 'G' Jordan gained 1st in her age group with 42:16 adding another medal to her ever-growing collection. |

Darren Elsdon, Karen Wood, and our very own cheese model Vicky Dunthorne flew the flag in the annual Remembrance Sunday race, the George Munday 10k. George Munday was a local resident who was decorated with the Military Cross. He donated the land on which the Sports and Social club (the home of TCRC) stands, to the village of Leverington. This is a hugely popular event that embraces Remembrance Sunday with a moving pre-race tribute from TCRC and KLTC Arthur Sargeant followed by a two-minute silence. The event in its 5th year is run by local club three counties running club (TCRC) it is ideal for runners of all abilities and while it is great for those looking to smash their PB, it is also a perfect fit for someone taking on their first 10k race in a relaxed club environment on quiet country roads. The George Munday sets off 500m from race headquarters at Leverington Sports and Social Club, located in the sleepy village of Leverington. The fast, flat, sheltered course took runners through quiet back roads and northwards into Newton, before making the final push towards the finish. The pack was led around the course by KLTC's very own Jeremy Navrady on lead bike duties. First across the line for our club saw Wood in 53:45 grabbing 2nd in her cat, followed by Elsdon in 57:35 and Dunthorne 01:18:25 |
