Charlie Wilson, James Hornigold, Jason Blackwell, and Kimberly Grey all travelled to High Lodge, situated in the stunning location of Thetford forest. This was the setting for the Can-But-Tri Winter Duathlon Series Event 4 out of 6 in total. The fourth of the winter series from this company, the event is held entirely off-road with the bike section suitable for mountain, cyclocross, gravel or hybrid (with off-road tyres) bikes. The run course took participants along woodland tracks combining sand, gravel, mud, grass and puddles. This was Hornigold's first attempt at Duathlon (run-bike-run), and a good insight into the bike-to-run discipline of transition. First to cross the line for KLTC saw Blackwell in 37:56 gaining 5th place overall. Hornigold set a time to beat of 48:32 placing 29th overall, Wilson 48:54 P31, and Grey having competed in the series before setting a personal best with a time of 49:40 P33. Distances on the winter route were 2.25km run / 7km bike / 2.25km run. Hornigold explains ''This was my first duathlon so I was a little nervous, not so much about the distance, but more the unknown feeling of a run bike run and how I would cope. The actual event and setting within High Lodge was amazing. The Marshals and the event organisation were brilliant, everyone involved was friendly and supportive. I would highly recommend this event to anyone and will definitely be back for more, During the race I personally found it hard but achievable for a novice like myself, I also think it's great value for money''

Alistair Doig, Sophie Doig, Lola Kidman, Esmie Kidman, and Darren Elsedon all set foot trail running in Shouldham woods for the fourth in the Ryston Runners AC Open Cross-Country Grand Prix Series. This time racing over 5KM. Shouldham Warren is a beautiful undulating wooded area with well-developed trails. The runs predominantly stick to the main fire break trails that scatter the warren. Underfoot the conditions were like a winter cross country should be, wet and muddy with a cold nip in the air, but also blue sky with glimpses of sunlight flooding through the trees. First over the line for KLTC was Alistair Doig in 22:24 followed by Darren Elsdon running 28:09. Lola Kidman ran in the under 13/15s coming 13th place overall with a time of 12:21 and gained a 3rd place age medal running for WNAC. Esmie in the same category ran 14:02 for KLTC placing 25th overall and 5th place age cat. Other club members on the day running in their Ryston kit were Daniel Guppy 17:49, Oliver Foxwell 18:47, Ben Foxwell 21:03, Mark Fountain 21:49, Pauline Sparrow, 25:54 Judith Berry 26:05, Maureen Wolfe 27:10. |
