Last weekend saw KLTC members tackle a very unique cross country event over in Reepham, hosted by the Reepham Runners. |
Bringing an end to January, KLTC members wallowed and waded through the delights of the Reepham Runners Cross Country Charity run. Charlie Wilson, Jason Blackwell, Mark Fountain, Mark Doughty, Debbie James, Pauline Sparrow, Maureen Wolfe, Karen Wood, Judith Berry, Emma Thompson, and James Hornigold all departed promptly at 10:30 on the whistle from the beautiful Norfolk countryside setting of the Whitwell & Reepham Station, about 1 mile outside of Reepham. Runners were met with an early morning frost making the mud and water heart-stopping to enter in places, thankfully the blue sky led to beams of warming sunshine to ease the cold. Boasting a two-lap run with a total of 10K (6.1miles) friends and family watched from the old station platform as competitors ran past completing the two laps and then cheering the sprint finishes to the end. Post race there was a good selection of cakes, beer and other food to enjoy in the stations own cafe the ‘sidings’ The run started along Marriott’s Way, turning off the railway track, running along water and mud filled ditches, out through a stream, across water meadows with further ditches, over fencing by steps, tracks, and a further stream crossing, eventually returning via tracks to Whitwell Station. Comprising of a seniors race, and for the juniors, a one lap race. The main aim of the event was to raise funds for charity, one of this year charities was YANA, which gives help to those in farming who may be affected by stress and depression. The whole event for many participants including KLTC and fellow Ryston Runners was to run the event for fun, away from the pressures of racing, and just enjoy our sport. The course was amassed with all different running clubs helping each other out of mud filled ditches, and rescuing trainers stuck in the mud. Times and places in this event were irrelevant. |
