Last weekend club members took a well-earned rest day and ran a volunteer take over at King’s Lynn Junior Parkrun. Aided with a little help from a few club friends the roster was filled ready for the FREE 2km event for junior runners of ages between four and fourteen. | |
Junior Parkrun offers an opportunity for all the family to get involved and come together on a regular basis to enjoy our beautiful local historic park. Continuing the Parkrun ethos, but on a junior level, it encourages people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability each Sunday, rain or shine at 9:00 am. For those new to Parkrunning, just register via the link below in advance before your first-ever Parkrun. Your individual barcode can then be used for this weekly 2k run, or on any of the weekly 5k Parkruns around the country. Like all of the Parkruns around the world, they CANNOT operate without YOU! YOUR help keeps these vital community events going. For those not aware our very own KLTC Doughty family are weekly volunteers and also run directors (The Run Director (RD) is in charge of a particular event on a specific day) Mark Doughty was the RD on our take-over, organising the event and directing our volunteers to their set positions. Mark Fountain and Debbie James took on their unique junior Parkrun task of ‘ warm-up leader’ comprising of a routine of warm-up exercises designed to get the juniors warmed up and hyped up ready to run! All concluding with a mass countdown from ten, while clapping hands and stomping feet eager runners lined up on the start line. Starting from the Parkrun HQ at the walks cafe juniors raced past the late 15th Century Red Mount Chapel, past the old town defenses Guannock Gate, taking in the footpath surrounding the bandstand and back across the diagonal to run the second and final lap. |

A few junior PB’s were achieved on the day ( must have been the warm-up!!!) and also a new junior female course record from Lola Kidman. It was agreed by all, it's a great feeling helping out, cheering the little ones on, seeing children run with their parents, remember these events hold the future athletes/triathletes so please support where you can. If you could spare even one weekend to help it would make a huge difference to all those involved. Why not volunteer while your child runs?? To add your name to the volunteer list please see the link below. Lots of different job roles are available, with full training on the day given. You can view an events future volunteer roster via their specific website address, the following link is for KL junior Parkrun, https://www.parkrun.org.uk/kingslynn-juniors/futureroster/ If you would like to get in touch/volunteer, just send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
