Spring is somewhat upon us and a brand new triathlon season looms! Last weekend KLTC triathletes were running and swimming home and away at the following events - Burghley 7, Mad March Hare, Duxford Dash, and Swimathon. |
Adrian Ebbs battled an undulating course and strong winds running in the Burghley 7 mile (11.2KM) road race. Burghley House is a grand sixteenth-century English country house near Stamford, Lincolnshire. It is a leading example of the Elizabethan prodigy house, built and still lived in by the Cecil family. The exterior largely retains its Elizabethan appearance and boasts 7 miles of incredible running the scenic course. Competitors ran through the private Burghley estate, a closed St Martins High street in Stamford, and the Cambridgeshire countryside, culminating in an epic finish line in front of Burghley house. Ebbs set a time of 52:18 placing 14th in his age group.
Andy Smith was also involved in an aeronautical event, burning up the runway over at the imperial war museum Duxford. IWM Duxford is Europe's largest air museum and was the base of the first RAF fighter squadron to receive the Spitfire in 1938. Boasting a flat and fast course, racing past aircraft lined up on the Flightline, finishers collected their Duxford Dash 2022 race medal and had the opportunity of a selfie in front of a spectacular Spitfire. Smith finished in 46:04 and captured a finishers photo in front of the iconic Spitfire with his daughter who also ran the event.
Closer to home Helen Melville, Ronnie Robinson, and Philip Ian swam for charity at St James swimming pool King’s Lynn, competing in the swimathon organised by Members of Lynn's Priory Rotary Club, with proceeds going to local charities. Set under a relay format with one swimmer at a time swimming, with a total of one hour to complete as many laps as possible. Team KLTC swam 148 lengths, each swimmer completing 1225m, they were placed 2nd in their time slot, only beaten by the fact the winning team comprised of six swimmers. The trio did win their group and have been invited to a presentation evening, fully clothed, I believe this time...
