SBR events Grantham spring triathlon was to be the first swim, bike, run event for King’s Lynn Triathlon Club members this season. Members were faced with temperatures feeling like minus 6 degrees from wind chill and some early morning frost, temperatures did rise later in the morning but this also added windier conditions.

Composed of SuperSprint - 200m/10.56k /2.5k or Sprint - 400m/18k/5k competitors moved through transition to cross the bike mount line and made their way out of the leisure centre facility onto a mini roundabout heading through the Lincolnshire town and countryside. The bike section was a two-lap course (one for super sprint) with a few undulations to enjoy.
The run takes you around part of the town immediately around the leisure centre on a 2 lap course. In the sprint event, this was the first triathlon for twins Ben & Oli Foxwell and Hurst.
First to cross the line for KLTC was Kidman with a total time of 1:02:41 taking 3rd place in his age group, Fountain 01:05:57, Doig 01:09:51, Hurst (debuting) 01:11:41 4th in her age group, also the fastest run in her A/G in 20:30, O.Foxwell debuting 01:11:54, White 01:12:00, James 01:12:04 1st in her age group, Melville 01:19:30, Berry 01:22:24, B.Foxwell 01:34:34, D.Elsdon 01:25:42, S.Elsdon 01:34:14, Convoy 01:40:30 Within the super sprint event Wilson, Gray, and Freer were all debuting in the sport. The trio did exceptionally well in all three disciplines, but due to a misunderstanding, their run was cut short. Their unofficial times were Grey 38:26, Freer 41:16, Wilson 44:14 |
"I found it was such a great experience and really enjoyed it! The Marshalls and volunteers were very friendly and very well organised! It was a great challenge for my first ever triathlon" B.Foxwell "Well it was my first ever triathlon and I honestly didn't know what to expect but I was both nervous and also excited, although it was quite tough overall I really did enjoy it and it was such a great atmosphere. It was also great to do a triathlon for King's Lynn Triathlon Club for the first time and I would definitely do another triathlon hopefully very soon" O.Foxwell |

"I thought the whole event was brilliantly organised and the Marshalls were so helpful. I was so nervous especially given the cold conditions and this being my first tri! but it wasn't as bad as anticipated. I think the thought of running to the bike wet was actually worse than reality. The staggered starts were also an eye-opener as kept forgetting that we were all starting at different times. This made it feel so much less intense than a running race. I did have to remind myself on the bike I was in a race ?. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and all the KLTC members were so lovely and supportive. Lots to learn but will definitely be back for more" S.Hurst |
