GO TRI Summer Duathlon - Basildon Aquathlon
On a bright and sunny morning, King’s Lynn Triathlon Club member Mark Moden was competing in the first of the GO TRI Summer Duathlon Series 1 at High Lodge in the heart of Thetford forest.
The Duathlon, run by local company Can-But Tri, offers a range of events throughout the year that are fun and friendly for those new to multi-sport events, but also great for the more experienced competitor wanting to test their fitness. The fully off-road route winds through the forest tracks, consisting of a 2.3km run, a 7km bike, and a second 2.3km run. The course contained mildly technical hazards, sand, grass, and hardpack trail, boasting a new brand route for 2022 containing a small hill for competitors to enjoy. The bike section was suitable for mountain/cross/gravel/hybrid bikes with off-road tyres. Anyone completing 3/4 events will be able to claim a series award.
Moden, a keen cyclist and runner is one of our newest members and is currently working on his swimming to complete at our very own sunny Hunny Triathlon. On the day he ran, biked, and ran his way to 3rd place with an overall time of 36:46. Completing the first run in 09:56, followed by the bike section in 16:59, and the final run to the finish line beating his first run time by 7s in 09:49.

Over in Essex budding junior triathlete and son to KLTC’s triathlete couple Darren and Sharon Elsdon saw Thomas Elsdon competing in the Basildon Kids Aquathlon (swim then run). The event was part of the British Triathlon Federation (BTF) East Junior Series league where juniors 8-18 race in individual races, compete for the regional series title, or try to qualify to represent the East. The East is just one of ten Triathlon England regions this event provided an opportunity for young people to race against each other, and also offers a great starting point for those wishing to enter their first triathlon event. Elson representing Tri-East swam 250m in 04:08, after a quick transition he completed the 1.8km run in 08:22 gaining 4th place overall in his age group for the Eastern region in a total time of 13:16.
