Dorney Lake, situated near the village of Dorney in Buckinghamshire, is a purpose built rowing lake that held the 2012 Olympic rowing and canoeing events, with grounds that are a perfect backdrop to running as well as rowing. The flat course is ideal for a chip timed personal best over the Marathon distance. The course consists of 4 completely traffic free laps covering the fabled 26.2 miles (42.195 KM) on pancake flat, tarmac roads that surround the lake with great marshals to keep you motivated. Run by Active Training World, along the route feed stations to take on water and High 5 energy drinks were available to fuel your Marathon effort. Kennedy, a multiple worldwide marathon runner placed 32nd overall running 3 hrs and 8 mins. Kennedy felt he went out a bit too fast and paid a bit for it with the warmer conditions and added wind resistance. He also commented on how nice the lake would be for a triathlon! |

Thomas Elsdon having previously completed the Basildon Kids Aquathlon (swim then run) in his Eastern junior series left his swim goggles behind and raced a Duathlon (run/bike/run) over in Milton Keynes. The event was part of the British Triathlon Federation (BTF) East Junior Series league where juniors 8-18 race in individual races, compete for the regional series title, or try to qualify to represent the East. The East is just one of ten Triathlon England regions this event provided an opportunity for young people to race against each other, and also offers a great starting point for those wishing to enter their first triathlon event. Elsdon started with a 1.6KM run in 6 mins 16 seconds, followed by a 5.4KM bike ride in 12mins 38 seconds, then finished with the last run of 600M in 2mins 49 seconds. He placed 6th overall and 4th in his category with a total time of 22mins 17 seconds. A massive well done Thomas and so good to see the future of our sport within this type of league. A well-deserved ice cream indeed. |
