Since our last news update, we've had club members present at Ely Duathlon and Skegness Triathlon. |
Mark Moden honed his run, bike, and run skills over at the Ely 115 Squadron Duathlon in Witchford, Ely. This was perfect practice for his pending first-ever triathlon later this month. The event organised by Ely Tri Club comprised of a 5km run around the disused WWII airfield, a fast and flat 25km bike route followed by another 5km run around the airfield. The 5km run course was an out and back road route taking Moden across a disused WW2 airfield that used to host the Stirling III and Lancaster bombers of 115 Squadron. The bike course heads briefly onto the A10 before heading out across the fens through the sleepy villages of Little Downham and Coveney. The second run used the same course as the first. Moden set a total time of 1 hr 35 mins, completing the first run in 23 mins 14 secs, the bike section in 47 mins 48 secs, and finally the last run leg in 23 m 23 secs. Moden was placed 27th overall and 11th in his age group. Moden quoted ‘’ Really enjoyable event, I struggle on the last 2k as the airfield was so hot’’ |
Bright light city gonna set my soul, gonna set my soul on fire! …Viva Skeg Vegas! …Viva Skeg Vegas! The tropical delights of Skegness saw host to Alistair Doig, Arthur Sargeant, Helen Melville, Maureen Wolfe, Michelle Convoy, Sophie Doig, Charlie Wilson, Paul Freer, and David Hammond who all took part in the second of SBR’s Lincolnshire triathlon series. Many of our club were present at the first in the series over in Grantham in April with temperatures of minus 6. This time though thankfully our triathletes were met with sunny and warm conditions. The event-based at Fresh Fitness at Richmond Holiday Park saw KLTC swim in a modern 25m pool, then continue out through transition to the bike course, which was relatively flat and straight. 11k distance on the super sprint and 18k for the sprint course. Racking the bike, our triathletes finished with a trail run from Richmond Holiday Park along a private road to the Skegness Eco Coastal Centre. Sophie Doig entered the Aquabike event (swim/bike) and she gained first in her age group with a total time of 49 mins 12 seconds. Charlie Wilson in the super sprint placed 11th overall with 55 mins 32 secs and 7th in his age group (A/G) Over in the sprint distance and first to finish for KLTC was Alister Doig placing 46th in 1 hr 11 mins 42 secs 15th A/G, closely followed by Arthur Sergeant 1 hr 15 mins 30 secs 64th overall and 8th A/G. Sergeant lost a few mins in transition fighting a toe that didn't want to fit in his shoe. The first finisher for the ladies saw Helen Melville in 1 hr 20 mins 20 secs, 95th overall and 7th A/G. David Hammond completed his first event under KLTC branding placing him 113th with 1 hr 22 mins 34 secs 5th A/G. Maureen Wolfe placed 132nd with 1 hr 25 mins 40 secs and gained 3rd place in her A/G. Paul Freer 155th overall, 1 hr 31 min 56 secs 32nd A/G, Michelle Convoy placed 167th with 1 hr 38 min 20 secs 30th A/G.
3rd place age group finisher Wolfe quotes, " It was a great day, the weather was pretty much perfect apart from bit of a head wind on the ride back which was twice as it was a two-loop course. The run was horrendous, it was around the eco-park which had so many arrows!!! I didn't actually know where to look! The cycle route took us out to Gibraltar point, course contained lots of potholes to avoid but quite a fast route other than the tight turning points. Well done to everyone involved in these events, triathlon season is warming up nicely! in more ways than one thankfully! :) |
