Juliette Meek set her sights on a middle distance triathlon in Huntington. The Grafman run by ActiveTrainingWorld saw Meek swim 1900m in the beautiful lake at Grafham Water. Consisting of two 950m laps with an Australian style exit on each lap. (Australian style - the term used for the part of a multi-lap open-water swim where the swimmer is expected to exit the water, run a distance and then enter the water in between each lap) After exiting the water and leaving Grafham Water behind she headed out onto a fast, rolling bike course. What should have been a two-lap 91km course was cut short to one lap due to adverse weather conditions (rain/flooding) for the safety of those taking part. On returning to Grafham Water, the run took her on a two-lap out-and-back course around the edge of the lake passing transition multiple times, with views over to Grafham Valve Tower. The run consisted of both tarmac and hard compound tracks over two laps of 10.5k totalling the half marathon distance. Meek finished the event feeling strong but totally soaked gaining 8th place in her age category setting a time of 04:45:45. Meek quoted ''It was honestly the wettest thing I have ever done in all my years of running that says something. We did 28 miles on the bike instead of 56, the conditions were that bad they pulled it. Normal run and swim though, and I was on track for a PB at the half distance, but hey, I'm happy just to get round today, it was great fun, I have never laughed in the rain so much!''

RAF Marham was first opened in 1916 to defend Norfolk from raids by the German Zeppelin airships during World War, also boasting the home of the F-35 Lightning, a 5th Generation, multi-role, stealth fighter. Based around this aeronautical military theme Daniel Guppy, Mark Moden, Charlie Wilson, Lynne Howlett, and Paul Freear all tore up the runway on a cold, wet, and windy ‘ flaming June ‘ Sunday. KLTC members battled the elements to race around the outskirts of the RAF base to compete in the Marham Flyers brick duathlon. A 20KM bike ride followed by a 10K run. This year’s event was being held in aid of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn, and the RAF Marham Community Families Fund. The finish medal was a unique platinum jubilee special edition this year to mark that landmark event being celebrated countrywide. First across the line winning the event in P1 was Guppy in 01:08:37, Next to finish Moden in P9 with 01:22:42.3, P24 Freer 01:35:02.7, our newest member placed Howlett 34th in 01:39:46, and completing the pack Wilson P40 01:55:30. |
