A purely aquatic theme for one member swimming Lake Coniston from end to end and closer to home, and back to triathlons, we had a good club turn out at Norwich Triathlon. |

Real-life KLTC mermaid Michelle Convoy challenged herself to swim Lake Coniston from end to end. This was the 10th Anniversary of this incredible swimming event which has been sold out every year since its inception. Convoy swam 5.25 miles ( 8449 metres) starting at the south of the lake and finishing north next to Monk Coniston Car Park. With such a marathon swim, correct fueling and hydration were important. Four boat-based feed stations near the shore roughly every mile of the swim route with water, energy drink and jelly babies kept Convoy and fellow competitors fuelled. Convoy finished her aquatic task run by chillswim and sponsored by Aquasphere in 05:03:59 quoting " The toughest swim I've ever done". |

Leaving the Lake District behind and back to triathlon with another local favourite event, the Norwich triathlon hosted by Tri-Anglia triathlon club. The event was held at Whitlingham Country Park, Norwich. Competitors swam over their chosen distance in the vast open waters of Whitlingham Broad, followed by a cycle race through the rolling picturesque South Norfolk country roads and culminated in an off-road run around the lake to the finish line. Dry, warm, but windy conditions met KLTC triathletes on the day. Opting for the Olympic distance (1500m/38k/10k) we had Paul & Vicky Dunthorne (a different breed of triathlete, where results and numbers are meaningless, it's all about the joy of taking part, If only we all tried this once in a while?). Two triathletes still fresh from Wells saw Peter Mackle 02:46:07 14th A/G, and Ashish Rastogi 02:53:04 12th in his A/G. Beth Norman with limited training due to exams still placed 2nd in her A/G with 02:54:00. Norman is also marathon training and will be running the London Marathon in memory of her Grandad. He was a keen runner who ran the London Marathon. Norman will follow in his footsteps alongside her mum who has completed London twice before. Donations to Blood Cancer UK can be made via the link. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/beth-norman3 Andrew Coker 03:30:36 19th A/G debuting at this distance for the first time. Troy Doherty took on the shorter but faster sprint distance (700m/18k/5k) in 01:25:45 gaining 10th A/G. |
