King’s Lynn Triathlon Club were out in force again over the weekend.
Matthew Allan was competing for teamGB in his second World Duathlon Championships, this year in Pontevedra , Spain. It was a twisty, technical and hilly course in scorching heat, making the initial 10km run and 40km particularly tough but was able to run himself in to 15th for his AG over the final 5km run, 3rd GB athlete and qualified for next year’s world champs. His finish time was 2hrs07 (34min58/1hr10/19min40).
Slightly closer to home and with very different weather to contend with, eight members were racing in Great Yarmouth at the East Coast Super Sprint triathlon with support from coach Jess. The 250m pool swim, 16km bike and 3km run signalled the start of the triathlon season, and first home for the club was Arthur Seargent in 54min07s (3rd AG), followed by Jemma Redhead in 57min38 who won her age group thanks to the fastest bike split within the club. David Hicks was next home in 58min15, just ahead of Debbie James finishing her first Tri in 58min55 (3rd AG) and Andre Delgado in 59min12. Emma Cuthell was the club’s fastest runner and came 4th in her AG with 1hr01. Philip Yates finished his first Tri in 1hr06, just ahead of Alice Page who competed in her first senior event and won her 15-16 age group in 1hr07, also taking the crown for the fastest swimmer from the club. Jenna Gotts was in action at the weekend too, opening her race season with a cheeky little sprint tri in Lincoln. She completed the 400m pool swim in 10min5, the 23km bike in 47min32 and the final 5km in 29min16, giving her a finish time of 1hr31min.
For those not racing, there was a club duathlon/brick training session around Sandringham to keep them amused. It was a magnificent start to the season for the club, with lots more fun to come with the Club’s own event in Hunstanton on the 19th May.
