Brick sessions are a fundamental part of triathlon training. They condition you both mentally and physically for running off the bike.
Due to the current social distance and pool operating restrictions, our club's Wed morning session has been moved to a Tuesday evening for the time being. There are also quite a few restrictions and guidelines we need to abide by from the BTF, Swim England, Alive St James and our own club, including:

This session is normally one of our staple training sessions troughout the year and is varied across the year to compliment the triathlon season. During November, we normally go BACK to BASICS - a chance to identify your weaknessed, work on your technique and get the basic right before we start to build our speed and distance during Dec through to April. While we get used to the new training environment, this is the sort of session you can expect.
The pool is 25m with a depth of 0.9m at the shallow end and 3.4m at the deep end.
If you are a new member or a non-member trying out our session before joining, please let our coaches know in advance using the comments box during registration.
For everyone else, if you have an injury you want to let our coaches know about in avance then you can add those in the comments box too.
We need to limit the amount of kit our swimmers bring poolside, so you will only need a pull buoy for drills. If you don't have one already, they are available to buy in town or online but most drills are able to be performed without one. We need to ask swimmers not to share any equipment during amy of our training sessions. You should also bring a named, filled water bottle with you.
We normally welcome those struggling with front crawl with open arms but, while we can accommodate a range of swim paces, this is not a learn-to-swim session. We do hold special front crawl sessions from time to time, and we hope to restart these at the CITB when their pool opens again, so we ask that swimmers are at least able to confidently swim 100m front crawl without rest and unaided.
As part of current operating guidelines, all swimmers MUST fill in a health screening questionnaire BEFORE arriving at the pool, and we need to keep a register of everyone who attended for at least 21days to assist with the Track & Trace initiative. This, alongside the restriction in numbers, means that we need to operate an online pre-booking system so that our coaches have access to everyone's details both before and after the session and avoid members turning up and hanging around in the hope there is a space available. It is possible to cancel your registration online, up to the day before the session and we operate a waiting list so that, if somebody does cancel, the swimmer on the top the list will be automatically offered the slot via email - we have no control of who is at the top of the list btw, it is in the order of registration. We are trailing optional online payments at time of registering (+24p paypal fee), but may decide to ditch this if it becomes a burden to manage. If chosing to pay in person, PLEASE BRING EXACT CHANGE.
If possible, please shower and use your own toilet before leaving for the pool and arrive 5-10mins before the session begins, but no earlier. Access to the pool has now returned to through the normal entrance and both lockers and changing facilities are available. If you can however, please arrive "Pool Ready" with your swimwear already on and under your clothes. Please bring a small waterproof bag with you to store your dry clothes in poollside (we are swimming by the windows, so will have use of the benches for storage). Remember to maintain social distancing throughout, the session must start promptly and sadly there will be less chance to chat with your clubmates before, during and after the session while in the building. Please wear clean shoes that are easy to get on and off as you will only be taking them off once poolside. Flip-flops or sliders are ideal.
If possible, please towel dry yourself with your swimwear still on, pull on some dry clothing (shorts & tshirt or hoodie) and exit the pool using the fire exit at reception. As with rest of the session, please remember to socially distance and avoid hanging around or chatting until you are outside and away from the pool. If you need to though, there are 2 showers and some changing cubicles available for use but please be quick as we all need to be out of the pool as soon as possible.
